On occasion (or when we have time), we will add or change
something here at Telephone World. Here is a listing of significant
changes.November 23, 2012
It's been way too long since I've updated this
website. I've been working on another project. See the Telephone
Central Office Building Pictures site to see what I've been doing
for the last couple of years.
But I promise I'll work on this site starting
right now. And I'll do it with a big bang. How? Telephone World is
now hosting the new phone tapes of the infamous Evan Doorbell. Evan
is now posting unnarrated "raw tapes" on the Telephone World
website. Come back here in the next few days and see what new tapes
he has posted!
I'm also in the process of moving to a new server
and the site will have a new look. But that will have to wait until
early 2013!

Moved to our own domain
www.phworld.org

Sadly, North Pittsburgh Telephone Company has been
sold to Consolidated Communications of Matton, Illinois. The 101
year history of NPTCo has ended with a buyout to satisfy hedge fund
owners. The histories and CO picture pages have been updated to
reflect the new ownership.

More new sounds. Thanks to Cynthia in Alabama for
sounds from a #1AESS. These switches are few and far between, so it
was nice of her to record these sounds before it was too late.
November 22, 2006
Finally some site updates! The private collector
of the FTR-Kellog switch set up two more switches in his backyard
shed! So now there is a Stromberg-Carlson XY switch and an AE
switch. I recorded some more sounds and added them to the page. I've
renamed the page "Private Collector Step by Step Switch Vintage
Telephone Sounds & Recordings".

Telephone World now resides on a new web server.
Everything should be transparent and actually work FASTER than
before, but should work the same. Eventually the site will be moved
to a new domain, but that will be in a gradual phased in period.
In addition to the new server, all audio files in
the Sounds directory are all now in MP3 format.
August 14, 2006
By popular request, I am now in the process of converting ALL the
sound files from Real Audio to MP3 format. The Miscellaneous sounds,
International sounds and Wawina, MN sounds are now all in MP3
format. The Modern and Vintage sounds are still in Real Audio at
this time.
